Club Members on an away day...........................
The Club Constitution
https://soundcloud.com/simon-warne/stock-book-christmas-song
The Purpose of the Club
The purpose of the Club is to recommend books not to read. Only one member would bring a book to review, to reduce the meeting time and any undue stress on members selecting books every month. The book review would take no more than two minutes to complete, and members would be encouraged not to use their fully allocated time. The review will be followed by a Club meal.
Meetings
Members would receive at least 21 days' notice of meetings.
A Chairman and Hon. Secretary will be present at all meetings. A proxy officer may be appointed in the unlikely event of a meetingthat the Chairman and Hon. Secretary cannot attend.
The meetings would be conducted in English.
No desserts would be taken after our Club meal. Cheese did not constitute a dessert. Cheesecake was a grey area.
Main courses are to be predominantly meat based meals.
Soup will be allowed but only in the winter months, for clarification the official winter period of the Stock Book Club is the date of the clocks going back and forwards.
Club wine would be served at all meetings where it is permitted to do so.
Members cannot borrow books that have been recommended not to read. This action would give the false impression tat the book was going to be read, which is contrary to the Club's stated aims.
Club merchandise is to be worn at meetings but by full members only.
The collars of the Club Gillets should be worn semi erect at all times during the meeting.
Members not are be allowed to drive home in a 2 or 4 wheeled vehicle after a Club meeting
All ideas thought of or discussed during a club meeting will remain the intellectual property of the club for the benefit of its members in perpetuity.
Introducing Guests
Members may bring a guest after informing the other members. The situation of several guests arriving on one evening is to be avoided.
Guests should not attend more than 1 meeting per calendar quarter to prevent de facto membership.
Presentations by guests - guest will be expected to make a 2 minute presentation on a subject of their choice. It need not be literary, although it should be a subject congenial with a dining and literary club.
Creating new members - A guest may be proposed to be made a full member*.
Members will vote on a proposed candidate using the Secretary's secret ballot box. Two black balls from six votes cast will mean the candidate is rejected from membership.
Club Song
The Club Song may be sung where appropriate to do so - opening meetings, closing meetings, at the bus stop etc. Check it out by clicking the link below.
Christmas Club Song
We are pleased to present the 2016 Christmas No. 1 - listen to our club members singing 'Have Yourself A Merry Stock Book Christmas'. Buy your own copy on iTunes or other non-Apple Music services.
